The iḍāfah/ annexation (إِضَافَةٌ) which is a genitive construction is used to indicate possession. Ex, هذا كتاب زيد / This is Zaid's book. ·The annexation (iḍāfah) is made of two terms; the first term المضافis always a noun that is completed and defined by the second term المضاف إليه. ·Ex. قناة الجزيرة (قناة is the first term مضاف , and الجزيرة is the second term مضاف إليه ). ·The first term, مضاف always comes before the second term, مضاف إليه. Ex, كتاب زيد / Zaid's book. / قناة الجزيرة / Al Jazeera channel. ·When annexing a noun (the first term of the annexation), it undergoes the following changes: -If the noun has tanween, that tanween is omitted. Ex, نشرةٌ / نشرةُ الأخبار / a bulletin / a news bulletin -If the noun is in the dual form, the ن of the dual is omitted. Ex, جناحان/ جناحا الطائرThe bird's two wings. -If the noun is in the sound masculine plural, the ن of this kind of plurals is omitted. Ex, معلمون/ معلمو العربية.The Arabic teachers.
-If the noun has a definite article ال , this article is omitted in most cases. Ex, العلم/ علم النحو / the knowledge/ the grammar knowledge.
